What can I expect on my first visit to the Chiropractor?

The First Visit

On arrival our health care assistant will ask you to fill out a detailed medical history. This comprehensive review of your condition and medical history is important. It will help the practitioner to properly address your health concerns.

The Chiropractor will conduct the examination, which will usually include:

  • An assessment of your posture to see how it influences your condition.
  • A range of motion assessment to determine what movements are affected.
  • Relevant orthopaedic and neurological tests to assist in the diagnosis of your condition.
  • Feeling the spine, joints and/or affected area to assess the type of injury.
  • Any other tests which will allow the Chiropractor to form a diagnosis.

  • At the Christies Beach Centre your first visit may also include a computerised:

  • Thermal Scan of your spine to detect sites of inflammation.
  • Electromyograph of your spine to locate areas of muscle tension.
  • Analysis of your weight distribution whilst standing to determine if one side your body is working harder than the other             and contributing to your symptoms.
  • Analysis of the way you walk to determine if your gait is affecting your condition.

  • Following this detailed analysis necessary to help in the diagnosis of your condition the Chiropractor may also refer you for X-rays.

As you can see the first visit is usually an information gathering session and the chiropractor will need time to study and analyse the results. Consequently, treatment is rarely given at this stage. If it is then it is only when the chiropractor believes it is safe to do so.

How much time do I need to allow?

You will need to allow 15 minutes to complete the medical history, and the first consultation with the Chiropractor takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes. We recommend you allow an hour and a half for your first consultation.

What do I need to bring?

  • Relevant X-rays taken in the last 5 years.
  • Your pension, health-care or student card (concessions may apply).
  • Your private health insurance card ~ HICAP’s facilities are available, so health fund claims can be processed at the             time of your consultation.
  • Cash, cheque or credit card for the gap payment.

  • The Second Visit

At your second visit the Chiropractor will:

  • Discuss your examination results and explain in simple language what the problem is.
  • Explain what has been revealed in the X-rays you have had taken.
  • Discuss if chiropractic care is appropriate for your condition and how you may benefit. If it is not appropriate the             chiropractor will refer you to the appropriate health care practitioner.
  • Recommend your best treatment options.
  • With your permission, commence treatment..

  • If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact our office. We look forward to assisting you with your health concerns.
