Joint and Muscle Pain

Did you know that Chiropractors not only assess and treat spinal conditions but can help a wide variety of joint problems including joint pain, bursitis, arthritis, sprains and strains? Some joint conditions we can help include:

  • Jaw pain and misalignment. Indeed, many jaw problems can cause headaches and contribute to the clenching and grinding of teeth.
  • Frozen shoulder and problems with the acromioclavicular (A/C joint) and S/C joints of the collar bone.
  • Tennis and golfer's elbow.
  • Carpel Tunnel syndrome.
  • Sharp rib pain with breathing.
  • Hip pain and bursitis.
  • Knee strains, aches and pains.
  • Ankle and foot pain: We will often work jointly with podiatrists in these cases.
  • Moreover, we do not only examine the injured joint but will assess your whole body to find out what may be contributing to or causing that joint injury. For example if your pelvis is tilted down on one side you will put more weight on the ankle, knee, hip and lower back on this lower side predisposing you to joint injuries on this same side. In addition, the pelvis in these cases is almost always twisted. As an experiment stand and twist your pelvis. Ignoring what happens to the rest of your body just look what happens to your knees, ankles and feet. They also twist don't they? Imagine how much constant stress this places on the muscles in your legs, the cartilages in your knees and the ligaments of your ankle. Now try and walk, run and jump in this position. Get the picture? You could also do the same to your upper body and see how that affects your shoulders and the rest of your body.

It may also surprise you as to how many joint aches and pains actually originate from the spine. You see as with other joints, the spinal joints can be injured, will subsequently inflame and irritate the adjacent spinal nerves. Irritation of these spinal nerves can often cause aches that feel like they are actually inside your joints. Of course this scenario also works in reverse. If, for example, you sprain your ankle this will alter the way you walk which can in turn affect your spine and other areas of your body. It stands to reason that in many cases the spine should be assessed when investigating joint problems.
